Glebe House Rathowen

Dating back to 1817 this one time Rectory is set in beautiful gardens and  rolling farmland . Situated in  the legendary Irish Lakeland district where  nearby  you can explore  ancient churches, castles and abbeys and delightful small villages and towns. Based in a special part of Ireland nestled away from all the stress and pressure of modern life.

A unique place to stay for a romantic or relaxing break Glebe House is located in the centre of Ireland just over an hour's drive from Dublin and situated on the main route to the West of Ireland , which makes it ideal for either a midweek or weekend country break or perhaps a one night stopover for those on tour. Guests can stroll to the village of Rathowen and savour the local village life, whether you seek the “craic” of  a local pub atmosphere or wish to take the local unique  Bog Walk which is located only minutes away.

Legend holds that Rathowen or Ford of Eoghain commemorates the 15th century battle camp of the Ulster King Eoghain O'Neill during his campaign against the Normans.  Within the village a newly developed trail affords nature lovers a rare opportunity to stroll through the fascinating landscape of one of Westmeath's last remaining bogs and study its truly unique flora and fauna.

The towns of Mullingar and Longford are nearby as are the picturesque villages of Ardagh, Multyfarnham, Tyrellspass and  Glasson.  All of which offer excellent dining experiences and friendly Irish bars for you to experience.

For our guests ….Excellent golf, fishing, walking and riding can be arranged. The Hill of Uisneach, Viking tours on the Shannon,  early Christian sites at Fore and Clonmacnoise and much more are here to explore  as are  the truly beautiful gardens at Belvedere, Tullynally and Loughcrew.

And not least ……………………..Experience Our By Now Famous Gourmet Breakfast &  Welcoming Afternoon Tea On Arrival.
